Dr Trouble hot sauce is hand crafted in one of the remotest parts of Southern Africa. Creating a truly unique taste of wild Africa. Each season creates a vintage, which means the subtle taste can flow from sweet and sharp to a more tart and tangy mouth feel. A piquant sauce with a clean lemon flavour and full-bodied oak smoke, wtih a touch of mango masala. It is made with a blend of 25% Bird’s Eye chilli and 75% Cayenne.
Our hot sauce bottles contains no sugar, no vinegar, colourants or added preservatives. This means it’s low in calories, suitable for vegans as well as gluten and nut free. Our ingredients are blended with natural rock salt from the Makadikgadi salt pans you will experience an earthy burger sauce like never. Dr Trouble produces premium and unique hot sauces with all natural ingredients, sourced from some of the most remote and wildest part of the upper Zambezi valley in Zimbabwe and offers consumers a true taste of southern Africa. The chilli sauce has four freshly squeezed lemons in each bottle and are entirely vegan, gluten free and naturally organic – with no preservatives or additives. Profits from the sale of the sauces supports education and conservation initiatives back in Zimbabwe.
Rob Fletcher and Albie Oberholzer launched Dr Trouble into the UK in July 2020, believing there was a market for a 100% natural premium chilli sauce range. As sales have grown 800% in the last six months, the sauces have been featured in the UK consumer and trade press, with The Times columnist Matthew Paris hailing them ‘the best chilli sauces in the universe’.
The sauces are a lifeline for the villagers who produce them, as Rob and Albie are committed to giving back to these communities – supporting with education initiatives like Little Peppers – which provides reading books for local school children, as well as conservation education initiatives.
Rob Fletcher is a third generation farmer in the Upper Zambezi Valley, who found the recipe in his Great Grandfather’s journal and following feedback from friends and family, decided to start producing the sauces for the local market. The fan base grew and as people started sending them to friends and family worldwide, and orders started coming in from far flung corners of the globe, Dr Trouble was born.
Albie Oberholzer is an expert in FMCG, who emigrated with his young family, to Belfast from his native Zimbabwe, in 2019 – vowing to bring the sauces with him to launch in the UK. Now shipped all over the world – Dr Trouble is planning to launch new flavours into the range in the early part of 2021.
